Can an Advert Featuring Phil Collins and a Gorilla Sell Chocolate?
Think chocolate and I imagine your first impressions are not Phil Collins. I would guess that gorillas do not feature heavily either. Unless you have seen this advert.
It’s simple, it is annoyingly catchy (especially to fans of American Psycho or people of a certain age), and it is very well done.
You know you want to see a gorilla drumming along to an 80’s classic pop song, admit it! What it has to do with Cadbury’s chocolate I have no idea, just enjoy

No, but it might sell tracks on itunes. I just bought “no reply at all” and now I am playing air drums instead of working.
Now, if Cadbury had a gorilla playing drums with rabbits instead of drumsticks I might buy some of their choco-eggs. I know I’d laugh everytime I took a bite of one as that image popped back into my head over and over again.
Very compelling. I laughed out loud. And watched it several times. Thanks!
That’s not when the drums are supposed to come in.
Freakin’ hilarious. But after it’s done, is it effective? Am I going to remember that it’s an ad for a chocolate bar? Probably not, like many “interesting” commercials these days.
